Couple evicted so landlord’s daughter could move in were told that another vacant house he owned is ‘needed for storage space’

The RTB said the landlord was justified in four-year-long dispute

When a couple was served with a notice of termination because their landlord said he needed the house for his daughter, they asked if they could live in the unoccupied property next door instead.

John Vaughan, who owns five houses on Abbey Street in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, told a Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) tribunal hearing that this wasn’t possible because he was currently using the vacant property for “personal storage”.
