A massive manhunt is underway after a senior police officer was shot in the throat.
Authorities in the US state of Georgia are combing areas in McCaysville near the Tennessee border, after police captain Brantley Worley, was shot on Friday at 11.10pm (local time) while responding to a distress call.
The shooter, who has been identified as 26-year-old Timothy Craig Ramsey, is still on the run.
Worley was airlifted to hospital and is alive but is believed to be in critical condition.
Worley’s wife, Jessica, confirmed her husband’s condition, saying that she was with him in the intensive care unit and pledged to stay with him until he comes home.
Authorities fear the worst if the suspect is cornered and have warned he is “armed” and “extremely dangerous”.
