Hurricane Melissa is now a category 3 hurricane.
As of 11 p.m. Saturday, Melissa was producing maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, making it a major hurricane. The storm is sitting 125 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica and inching west at 3 mph.

The storm reached hurricane status 2 p.m. Saturday and as strengthened from a category 1 to a category 3 in that time. It is forecasted to continue strengthening and reach Category 5 strengthen early this week.
The National Hurricane Center expects Melissa to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane by the end of the weekend.
Melissa has 75 mph winds and is nearly stationary about 145 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica.
