A British tourist has died and another is fighting for his life in the Canary Islands after falling nearly 20ft from the balcony of a hotel.

The incident happened in the Spanish resort of Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, in the early hours of this morning, when the railing of their hotel ‘gave way’.

The two Brits, aged 56 and 54, plunged to the ground – with the first dying on the spot.

The other was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital.

His exact injuries are still unconfirmed, but he remains in critical condition.

Emergency services arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the fatal fall at around 1.30am.

Upon arrival, the health teams could only confirm the death of one of those affected.
