Garret Headrick, 27, was sentenced to 21 years in prison for a domestic violence incident that occurred in Surprise in October 2024, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Headrick traveled from California to confront his pregnant ex-wife, with whom he shared a child. As the victim was leaving her Surprise home to attend a soccer game with her three children, Headrick approached her with a metal bar and forced the family back inside, prosecutors said.

He then proceeded to physically attack the woman in front of the children, repeatedly striking her, according to the County Attorney’s Office. Headrick dragged the woman into the kitchen and armed himself with a knife before he proceeded to try to strangle the woman, according to the County Attorney’s Office.
