SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - More than 100 people braved chilly autumn weather Saturday Oct. 25, to participate in the Annual Polar Plunge to raise money for local Special Olympics athletes.

The event was held at O’Connor Heating and Cooling in Sioux City for the 4th year, but according to organizers, it has been held in the area for over 20 years.

The event raised over $20,000 for athletes in the area, according to Maddie Cory, the Law Enforcement Torch Run Director for the Special Olympics.

“All of the money is going to stay local to our athletes,” Cory said. “We do have over 10,000 athletes in the state of Iowa, but alone here we have thousands of athletes here in this area and they get to compete year-round then in sports.”

Several teams of polar plungers came out, many dressed in costumes.
