New Delhi: Odisha has been placed on high alert as Cyclone Montha that is currently brewing over the Bay of Bengal. It is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The state government said it is fully prepared to handle any eventuality due to the impact of the storm.

The IMD’s latest forecast says that Cyclone Montha will likely make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh on the night of October 28. Although the cyclone’s centre may cross Andhra Pradesh, large parts of Odisha are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds from October 27 onwards.
