PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Peoria Fire Department investigators believe a fire that caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to a vacant home early Saturday was intentionally set.
Firefighters were called shortly before 7:15 a.m. to the 1000 block of East Behrends Avenue.
Battalion Chief Mike Ralston said first-arriving crews saw heavy smoke and fire, which was brought under control after an “aggressive interior attack.”
The single-story home was not occupied, according to Ralston, and there were no injuries.
The chief said a preliminary investigation indicated the fire was intentionally set.
Damage is estimated at $40,000.
