No. 10 Monmouth improved to 7–1 overall and 4–0 in the Coastal Athletic Association with a 28–10 win over Hampton on Saturday, spoiling the Pirates’ Homecoming before a crowd of 8,693 at Armstrong Stadium and a large turnout in the surrounding tailgate areas.

Despite the final score, Hampton’s defense turned in one of its strongest efforts of the season, keeping Monmouth’s high-powered offense in check for much of the game. The Hawks entered the contest leading both the CAA and the nation in offensive production, averaging more than 45 points and over 530 yards per game. Hampton’s defense, however, limited the visitors to well below their usual output and forced them to grind out drives instead of relying on explosive plays.
