Shocking figures have revealed that more than 10,000 arrest warrants remain unexecuted across Scotland , including suspects wanted for the most heinous crimes such as murder and rape. ‌

The damning statistics, released by Police Scotland , demonstrate that 10,064 outstanding arrest warrants were still active as of September. Among these were seven for murder, five for attempted murder and 40 for rape. ‌

A staggering 605 warrants related to drug supply or possession, whilst 72 concerned domestic abuse and 1,253 involved assault charges. Police Scotland issues arrest warrants through the courts when there are reasonable grounds to believe an individual must appear before magistrates to face criminal charges, or when their whereabouts cannot be established. ‌
