CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — A state audit says the state isn't raising enough money from its state park system, concluding that it needs to get more creative to increase revenue from customers and rely on a lower share of the state budget.
Red Top Mountain is a well-visited state park close to Atlanta. It was the woodsy views of Lake Allatoona that drew visitors, especially in the fall.
"This is nice. It's very private. And it's pretty and it's woodsy," said a camper from Florida who declined to provide her name. She was at Red Top with members of her family, camping on adjacent sites.
Her family rented a cloth-covered yurt in Red Top's campground, which cost about $120 per night.
