New Delhi: India’s final group-stage match of the Women’s World Cup against Bangladesh ended in disappointment as persistent rain forced an abandonment at the D.Y. Patil Stadium on Sunday. With the result, both teams shared points, but India having already sealed their semifinal berth with a win over New Zealand earlier in the week will now face Australia in the knockout stage.
At the time of interruption, India were comfortably placed at 57 for no loss in 8.4 overs while chasing a revised target of 126 in 27 overs. The rain had earlier shortened Bangladesh’s innings, returned to wash away any chance of resumption and forced the umpires to call off the contest for good.
Before the weather changed the plan, India’s bowling unit put another spectacular, disciplined performance. Radha Yada
