CHAPEL HILL — UNC football decided to go for the win with a two-point conversion attempt in its 17-16 overtime loss to No. 16 Virginia on Oct. 25 at Kenan Stadium.
Following a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Gio Lopez to running back Davion Gause, coach Bill Belichick didn’t hesitate as he told the Tar Heels (2-5, 0-3 ACC) to attempt a two-point conversion against the Cavaliers (7-1, 4-0).
On the final play, Lopez rolled out and threw a pass to running back Benjamin Hall, who approached the goal line before reaching out toward the pylon. Hall didn’t get there before his knee touched the turf. Game over.
Asked about the decision in his postgame press conference, Belichick didn’t provide much insight.
“Yeah, trying to win the game,” Belichick said inside the Kenan Football Center.
