CINCINNATI (WXIX) -The Newtown police chief is weighing in on the recent data that shows an increase in drug seizures involving carfentanil and other deadly opioids.
Chief Tom Synan, who is also a part of the Hamilton County Addiction Response Coalition, says that the drug was found in the county in 2016 and became less common before December 2024. The drug was traced to manufacturers in China.
It resurfaced likely due to the fentanyl supply being disrupted, Chief Synan explained.
According to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA, Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid originally developed for veterinary use, specifically to tranquilize elephants and other large animals.
