QUINCY — The Adams County Bicentennial Commission continued commemorating history Saturday by celebrating the tradition of caring at St. Mary Hospital.

A marker dedicated near the corner of 16th and Vermont honors the site of the hospital which began serving the community on Oct. 25, 1867 and was sold to Blessing Hospital on April 1, 1993.

“Today provides a permanent marker here on the location where the former St. Mary Hospital stood so the community has a place to see where it once stood even though the buildings are long gone,” said Sharon Sandidge, a nurse for 45 years at St. Mary and Blessing and a commission member who helped spearhead the dedication ceremony.
