HARTFORD TWP., Ohio - Fire investigators are crediting a smoke detector for rousing a sleeping resident in her burning Hartford Township home early Monday.

The Ohio Fire Marshal is investigating after 911 dispatchers got a call reporting flames on the second floor of a home on the 3800 block of Custer Orangeville Road in Hartford Township just after 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The first firefighter to arrive at the address reported smoke coming from the home.

Brookfield, Burghill, Orangeville, Fowler, and Vernon fire departments were on the scene for about two hours.

Officials believe the fire broke out in the home's attic and spread through the rest of the house.

No one was injured. The Red Cross is assisting the resident with shelter and other needs.
