Aberdeen have appointed Lutz Pfannenstiel as their new sporting director , with the 'vastly-experienced' German set to take up the post next month.

The 52-year-old will begin his new role on November 10 subject to visa formalities being completed, and joins the Dons after five years as sporting director with MLS outfit St Louis City SC.

His appointment comes after Steven Gunn recently announced he would be stepping down from the role with the club after more than two decades with Aberdeen.

During his time in the states, Pfannenstiel was credited with building the entire sporting structure from the ground up – overseeing the creation of the academy, the MLS NEXT Pro team, and a state-of-the-art training facility.
