LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — Local Starbucks employees rallied against the company over the weekend as part of a nationwide labor action.

The rally was a precautionary move. Workers are asking Starbucks to work with them, or else there will be a strike.

A vote has now opened for a strike authorization within the union Starbucks Workers United. The rally is part of a national movement of 70 pickets in 60 cities as baristas escalate contract demands and prepare to strike.

Workers are asking for more take-home pay, better hours, and for legal issues to be resolved. The demand to finalize a contract comes ahead of the holiday season.

The union is holding rallies across the country through Nov. 1 to support the vote.

Starbucks did not respond to a request for comment.
