HOUSTON — A Texas couple’s dream vacation aboard Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas turned into a financial and emotional nightmare after a medical emergency forced them off the ship and left them with tens of thousands of dollars in unexpected expenses.
Pam and David Thomas, avid travelers who estimate they’ve taken at least 15 cruises, set sail in March 2024.
“We were going to relax and have a good time on spring break with our daughter and granddaughter. We left from Galveston and went to Roatan, Costa Maya and Cozumel,” Pam said.
But midway through their trip, David began feeling ill.
“He was not doing well at all and I asked him if he wanted to go to medical," Pam said. "At first, he said no, but then we decided we needed to go.”
The diagnosis was COVID-19.
