LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An LMPD officer shot and killed a man after police say he shot a woman early Monday morning in Louisville.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Louisville Metro police responded to a shooting in the 5500 block of Ridgecrest Road, according to LMPD officials. They were responding to reports that a woman had been shot.

When officers arrived on scene, before they tended to the woman, they were approached in the street by man who was holding a handgun.

Authorities say officers gave commands for him to drop the weapon, however, the man reportedly continued to approach and pointed his handgun in the direction of the officers.
