A 24-year-old man has been charged after police responded to a weapons call in south London on Friday afternoon.

A man and woman encountered another man they knew in the area of Commissioners Road East and Wellington Road around 3:40 p.m.

When the man tried to speak with them, another male who was with the woman brandished a knife and pointed it at him before fleeing on foot, police said.

Several witnesses later called police.

Officers arrested a suspect nearby and found a knife during a search, police said.

No injuries were reported.

A 24-year-old man from London is charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on Oct. 28.
