The future of the Co-Operative Care Centre (CCC) hangs in the balance after the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville council finalized the decision to pull the funding from the overnight shelter.

In their latest meeting on Thursday, the region’s mayors affirmed the decision to pull the funding, which was made by the counties’ joint services committee earlier this month.

As the sole funder of the shelter, Leeds and Grenville deemed the Co-Operative Care Centre “not financially viable” and will redirect the provincial Homelessness Prevention Program funding to other programs.

With the Counties cutting off the funding on Dec. 31, this leaves the CCC to try to find other ways to raise the money to keep its doors open.
