CANON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) - The Cañon City Police Department is warning the community of an increase in vehicle trespasses and thefts in the city.

Police said many of these vehicle trespasses have resulted in residents’ personal belongings, including firearms, being stolen.

They said that in most cases, the firearms have been stolen from unlocked vehicles.

Cañon City Police Chief John Schick noted that he is concerned for both citizens and officers due to the possibility of those suspects now being armed, allowing for these crimes to become violent.

Residents are being asked to ensure their vehicles are locked and any items of value are taken out of the car. If you are out, police suggest concealing any items left in your vehicle so that criminals cannot see your valuables inside your c
