COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Monday, the Colorado Springs City Council heard from community members about a proposed city budget that’s getting a lot of attention.
The city plans to cut costs to overcome a $31 million shortfall in next year’s budget. Some of those cuts affect the fire department and a local community center.
Emily Tamayo spoke during the meeting. She told 11 News she’s worried that certain essential services in the city won’t be funded enough.
“Community centers are public safety, police and firefighters are public safety, and same with victim advocates,” Tamayo said.
Many sitting in on the meeting represented CSFD or Meadows Park Community Center, which closed earlier this month.
Council president pro tem Brian Risley told 11 News he doesn’t believe these cuts
