COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A deadly shooting involving Colorado Springs police has been ruled justified by the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The Attorney’s Office announced its decision on Monday, nearly a year after the incident occurred near Astrozon Boulevard and South Academy Boulevard, in southeast Colorado Springs.

According to the DA’s Office, police were called out to a restaurant on December 13, 2024, just after 11 p.m., on reports of an active shooter. Employees reportedly told police that the suspect, Dean Ackerman, had fired shots into the building.

When police arrived on scene, the DA’s Office said Ackerman was sitting in his car in a parking lot with a handgun in his hand. The DA said officers made several orders for him to drop the gun and exit his vehicl
