Peoria, Ill. (WMBD) -- A strengthening storm system will bring more rain to Central Illinois late Tuesday and Tuesday night, though the heaviest and most beneficial rain is expected to remain south of the area.

A few rain showers will develop across the region on Tuesday, though overall coverage will likely remain a bit more hit-or-miss and focused near and south of I-74. Rain will become more widespread Tuesday night as the area of low pressure passes south of Illinois, but once again the shower coverage will be highest south of I-74.

Our area will be on the northern fringes of the precipitation shield and an influx of dry air from the north will make it a challenge to get rain falling north of the interstate. This should help keep rainfall amounts on the light side with most areas seei
