GRAND MARAIS, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Businesses in Grand Marais are offering discounts and gift cards to help residents facing the end of federal food assistance programs on Nov. 1.
Johnson’s Foods is providing a 10% discount to federal workers and will extend the discount to all WIC, EBT, and SNAP cardholders starting Nov. 1, according to co-owners Jacob Muus and Crystal Clemons.
“We can get by in the meantime with not getting the food stamp benefits, but it’s the people that really need it that aren’t getting it right now,” Muus said.
Java Moose and The Fisherman’s Daughter are also participating by distributing grocery store gift cards to those in need.
