DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) -The long-debated future of the Lester Park Golf Course took a major step forward Monday night.

In a unanimous vote, the Duluth City Council approved the Lester Park Land Use Study, which includes transferring the property to the Duluth Economic Development Authority (DEDA) — a move aimed at paving the way for redevelopment.

The decision follows a recommendation from the city’s Planning Commission, which endorsed the move to begin the process of reimagining the 253-acre site.

Councilors said the action marks the beginning of a larger effort to revitalize an area that has sat mostly idle for years.
