Whaleback Mountain ski area plans to reopen for the 2025-2026 season without its lone chairlift operating, staff announced last week.
“First and foremost, we are thrilled to confirm that we are planning to be open for the 2025-2026 winter season,” an Instagram post said. “The chairlifts will not be operating this season. All of our other lifts, including the new surface lift, will be operational for the season.”
The chairlift at the nonprofit ski site in Enfield was shut down last February, after the mountain operations team identified gearbox bearing failure as the source of a “funny noise” and made the decision to shut down the chairlift “in order to avoid a catastrophic failure,” according to the ski area’s website.
