Survivors of the recent storm are finding new homes after the remnants of ex-Typhoon Halong devastated communities across Western Alaska.

“There’s a large rebuilding effort taking place right now,” said Jeremy Zidek with the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

As temperatures drop, evacuees who had been staying at emergency shelters — including the Alaska Airlines Center — are now transitioning into more private and comfortable housing.

“We’re moving people into hotel rooms—settings that are a little more private and comfortable,” Zidek explained.

The goal is to help survivors recover and stabilize after weeks of uncertainty.

“We’re still providing medical and food support for the foreseeable future until everyone is stabilized,” Zidek added.
