KINGSTON, Jamaica (KMOT/KFYR) - A group of North Dakotans on vacation in Jamaica are taking shelter Monday night as Hurricane Melissa approaches.

Your News Leader learned the group of eight people from Burlington, Granville, and Towner are on the island nation waiting out the storm.

A member of the group told us they tried to fly out but the airports in Kingston and Montego closed before they could leave. They said they were heading to a shelter around 9 p.m. local time Monday.

We’re working on following up with the group Tuesday and will update you as we learn more.
