Monday’s regular meeting of Weyburn City Council included an important step in the creation of the 2026 budget – the presentation of the preliminary budget. Department heads outlined their expected capital and operating budgets for Council’s review ahead of public input.

Councillor Laura Morrissette explains Council has spoken to the department heads and provided an outline of what they believe residents can handle by way of a potential tax increase.

“It's a fine line. We want to make sure that everybody has safe roads and safe drinking water, and we're making all of the regulations with our landfill and that kind of thing. But we also have to balance that with what taxpayers can actually pay each year. It is a very, very difficult balancing act.”
