HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - One person died and another was hospitalized from a house fire in Hartford on Monday night.

The victim was identified as 58-year-old Aida Shaikh.

Members of the Hartford Fire Department responded to the fire on Elliott Street around 10:35 p.m.

The structure was described as a two and a half story multi-family home.

The fire had already extended to the second floor and roof area by the time firefighters arrived. A second alarm was struck to bring in additional personnel and resources, the fire department said.

Jeniffer Rosa, who lives down the street, heard the sirens and saw the flashing lights.

“I heard a bunch of fire trucks,” Rosa said. “I realized that it was my friend’s house and I ran over there.”
