A specialist underwater search is continuing into the third day after a man entered the River Irwell.

Police were first called to the scene at the Irwell Street bridge at around 3.13am on Sunday morning (October 26) 'regarding a concern for welfare'.

It is believed the man entered the water, with a search operation launched to find him.

On Sunday afternoon, underwater search teams were seen scouring the river off Irwell Street in Salford , close to Spinningfields in Manchester city centre .

Searches continued on Monday and have entered the third day today (Tuesday), a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

The specialist underwater search teams are continuing to scour the water.
