BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Louisiana joined a coalition with over 20 other states in support of President Donald Trump's birthright citizenship policy.
A federal appeals court ruled that Trump can't withhold citizenship from children born to people in the country illegally or temporarily. Arguments center around the 14th Amendment's Citizenship Clause. Over 20 states filed a Supreme Court brief, stating that a judicial review of Trump's policies should be based on "sound legal analysis, not prejudgments."
According to a release from Attorney General Liz Murrill, attorneys general say the 14th Amendment never intended to grant automatic citizenship to tourists or illegal aliens who are coming into the U.S. for the sole purpose of having an “anchor baby.”
