FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division celebrated the opening of its new Pee Dee Region office in Florence County on Tuesday.
SLED chief Mark Keel and other officials attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new 10,000-square-foot facility located on the campus of Francis Marion University. SLED joins the state Department of Natural Resources as the second state agency with offices on the school's campus.
The ribbon-cutting marked the completion of a project that was born a decade ago, in 2015, when Keel first discussed the idea of a regional office with the late Sen. Hugh Leatherman and Francis Marion President Fred Carter.
SLED has long operated out of rented spaces in the region, and officials said the new facility will improve day-to-day oper
