LUBBOCK, Texas -- The natural weather phenomenon known as La Nina often means more precipitation for folks up north, but what does it mean for Lubbock?

While more precipitation and snowstorms could be possible for northern areas, Texas is facing a different story. According to the seasonal outlook from the Climate Prediction Center, the Lubbock area was expecting to be leaning above average temperatures for the winter. The precipitation outlook for Lubbock was also leaning below average.

This is because La Nina is an oceanic pattern, cooling Pacific Waters and pushing the cold air up north. This leaves Texas with less cold fronts and precipitation.
