SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WKOW) — The Sun Prairie Police Department announced an arrest in a homicide that happened a little over a year ago on Martin Street.

Zachary O'Connell was arrested for first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

O'Connell is accused of firing a gun on Oct. 18, 2024, that killed William J. Flanary, 24, of Brookfield, and hurt one other person. That person's injuries were non-life-threatening.

Neighbors called in reports of gunshots around 7 p.m. that night. One neighbor told 27 News he heard yelling and then multiple gunshots.

Flanary was pronounced dead at the scene.

O'Connell and Flanary knew each other, according to police.
