LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - As Jamaica faces the impact of a historic Category 5 hurricane, a Louisville couple had no choice but to hunker down in a resort room and ride out the storm.
Johni Ison and Courtney Aleen watched conditions deteriorate rapidly from their resort room. Before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, they could still see the ocean from their window.
“You can barely see the ocean anymore,” Ison said. “You could see it pretty good earlier, but it’s getting a little bit worse. We have a lot of trees that are blowing down.”
By 3 p.m., after Hurricane Melissa had made landfall as the strongest hurricane to ever hit Jamaica, the scene outside had transformed dramatically. Trees and debris filled the view where the ocean had been visible hours earlier.
