CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — A Cary man serving a life sentence for the 2015 murders of his mother and girlfriend was found dead in his prison cell Tuesday afternoon, the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections said.
Brandon James Lee, 44, was discovered unresponsive around noon in his cell at Scotland Correctional Institution near Laurinburg. After life-saving measures were performed, he was pronounced dead at 12:32 p.m., according to corrections officials.
State officials said that Lee's death is believed to be a suicide. The investigation into the incident was still underway late Tuesday afternoon.
Lee had a Wake County trial for the killing of his mother, Christa Lee, 58, on Dec. 14, 2015, and his girlfriend, Krystal Juell Hylton, 28, four days later.
He was found guilty of two count
