London’s next city council is poised for a significant salary bump and politicians who are not re-elected will receive a month’s severance, under recommendations endorsed Tuesday.
The council resourcing review task force, which met several times through the year, drafted recommendations presented to politicians at the Tuesday meeting of the strategic priorities and policy committee about how they should be paid after the 2026 election.
Chief among the recommendations is tying councillors’ base pay to the 70th percentile of median full-time income in the London census metropolitan area, effectively paying them more than 70 per cent of London-area residents. After the 2026 election, that figure would be $94,222.
