CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Two Virginia state senators are questioning the legality of the University of Virginia’s recent agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, saying the deal could violate both the U.S. Constitution and state law.
Senate President Pro Tempore Louise Lucas and Majority Leader Scott Surovell sent an eight-page letter to interim President Paul Mahoney and Rector Rachel Sheridan arguing that UVA’s decision to scale back its diversity, equity and inclusion programs in exchange for restored federal funding represents “coercion, not cooperation.”
