MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis-Shelby County School board members are speaking out Tuesday after county commissioners override Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris' veto on Monday.

The county commission voted to have all school board member positions placed on the ballot next year.

"First of all it's voters' nullification, it is unconstitutional to stop elected officials in the middle of their elected term," said Board Member Towanna Murphy.

In an 8 to 4 vote, the Shelby County Commission decided to override Mayor Lee Harris’ veto on school board elections.

The votes came with controversy when the commission "chair" threatened to remove members of the audience who were disrupting the meeting.

Murphy said that for her, the commotion was due to personal reasons.
