A sex offender who was hired by the state to work for the RMV has been fired, the Herald has learned.
Leonard Shuster, a registered sex offender in Florida who moved up to Massachusetts after serving more than a decade behind bars, was hired by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation agency earlier this year.
The 64-year-old customer service rep at the Registry of Motor Vehicles — who had an annual salary of $53,445 — started with the agency in March. Then a few months later, Shuster was placed on paid administrative leave before being fired.
“Leonard Shuster was hired in March 2025 by the RMV to process truck company applications for the Truck Safety Devices program,” MassDOT said in a statement to the Herald. “He did not interact with the general public in this role.
