BOSTON —
A new law that requires employers in Massachusetts with 25 or more employees to disclose pay ranges in job postings takes effect Wednesday.
The Wage Transparency Act also gives employees and prospective employees the right to know the pay range for a position when applying, getting promoted, transferred or beginning a new position.
It also lets people request the pay range for their current position.
The law also requires employers of a certain size to report data and demographic information by submitting their “EEO Reports” to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Gov. Maura Healey signed the bill into law last year.
The bill's authors said the measure will reduce gender and demographic wage gaps.
Several other states have similar laws.
