EVERETT, Mass. —

Over the last 9 months, the city of Everett, Massachusetts, has had its fair share of controversy as well as protests.

Some say it's proof it's time for a change.

Incumbent Carlo DeMaria says it's just politics as usual.

With one week to go, he was working the phones, trying to bolster his campaign.

"What I tell residents of the city: have faith," DeMaria said. "Have I not delivered?"

DeMaria has been the mayor of Everett for the past 18 years. He brought a casino to the city and is trying to bring a professional soccer stadium as well.

He's also the man who's drawn protests to city hall .

DeMaria has been in the hot seat for months over $180,000 in bonus payments. The Massachusetts State Inspector General determined DeMaria should not have taken the money and
