SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) -- A hazardous materials leak at CSX on Evins Street in Spartanburg has prompted a flaring operation to safely manage the situation, according to the city officials.
Spartanburg City Fire Chief Brewton confirmed that the flare operation is underway and emphasized that residents are safe. The Spartanburg Police Department is assisting with the operation.
First responders reported that the flaring operation, which began following the incident Tuesday night, is expected to last 24 to 48 hours. Flames will be visible as crews work to mitigate the railcar involved in the leak.
Residents have been assured of their safety, and the operation is being overseen by railroad personnel.
