SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) -- In addition to improving their services, the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office announced they are building a new morgue.

The coroner's office currently performs autopsies out of the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, but Coroner Rusty Clevenger said more space and tools are needed. The office's facilities will be moved to a new location where investigators, officers and other personnel will be located.

Additionally, a new morgue will be built on-site at Venture Boulevard.

To help with the cost, Clevenger applied for a $244,500 Forensic Science Improvement Grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, which provides agencies with funding to improve medical examiner services.
