This summer, Statistics Canada again labelled Thunder Bay as having the highest crime rate in the country. In this series, The Chronicle-Journal reached out to police and City officials for their views on how this high crime label might impact the growth of Thunder Bay.

Engagement of social service organizations is paramount to balancing the work with law enforcement officers to deal with criminal activity.

“We really want to see all of our other services be funded properly to have the capacity to work at what they need to do and take (the pressure) away from the police services,” Thunder Bay Police Service Chief Darcy Fleury said.

While social service engagement makes a difference on the streets, police seek collaborative measures from many other areas for different types of crimes.
