RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A tree from The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is making history. Nevada will be providing the United States Capitol Building Christmas Tree for the first time ever this year.
“Guess what! We have trees in Nevada. We have some beautiful trees in Nevada,” said Duncan Leao, Capitol Christmas Tree Project Lead. He assembled a skilled crew from the U.S. Forest Service, coordinated with sponsors and oversaw the tree selection process.
“We had a successful harvest and we are in the final stages of preparing the tree, truck and trailer to get it prettied up for our whistle stop tour across Nevada and the rest of the country,” added Leao.
The 53-foot tree was harvested from the Carson Ranger District. “This red fir, named “Silver Belle” from Nevada, is a symbol of our gift
